Technology in Senior Care

An article on technology and software applications for the elderly.

Technology changes everything and so in senior care too it can change how things work. Ideally technology creates an accessible world and doing work or chores easier. Technology can replace repetitive and difficult tasks like sending information from one country to another. Technology can also perform extreme tasks like welding together automotive frames. This makes life easier for everyone. So what does technology in senior care look like? It looks like cameras, software, robotics, and data gathering tools.

Robotics in senior care isn’t something new. Robots that can clean or even keepFigure 1 a senior company would be a cool addition to anyone’s home. Automating tasks like medication prompting can eliminate the possibility for human error. These robots already exist. Like the Roomba seen to the right that is famous for its sweeping abilities! Both technologies are great examples of efficiency and preventing burnout for caregivers.

Another type of technology that can make life a breeze are devices that can be controlled through voice command and their applications. Devices like Alexa or Google Home can be useful for seniors who are immobile. Asking these devices questions can provide companionship and create a more interactive life experience.  Although technology is not a substitute for human interaction, industry observers note that chatbots and virtual assistants can engage in “conversations” with seniors and help alleviate feelings of loneliness and boredom. Switching lights or music on or off becomes something that doesn't require any motion. These smart home technologies have endless application with more being worked on as we speak. Telehealth is another technology bringing therapists, doctors, and family to your screen anytime you need them. Other apps for reiki, energy healers, or spiritual health workers would mean you have the convenience to receive therapy remotely. Data from wearable tech can also be useful in managing health and keeping records of heart rate or temperature for either your doctors or personal record.

In conclusion with no drawbacks tech is the way to go for all your life's inconveniences. Remember, don’t limit yourself when your brainstorming ideas to improve your life or space.
