One duty of a caregiver is to transport their client to all essential appointments during the week. Transportation duties involves the transport of a client to their desired location. Transportation is done with either the caregiver's car or the client's car. Other options like uber or other transportation services including senior transportation services exist. These services do not include mobility assistance or any caregiver assistance.
So what is an example of transportation for someone who needs a caregiver's assistance? A client with Dementia loved to take drives when he was younger and healthier. He asks his caregiver to take him on a drive as an activity and to "get away from the house for a little while". This activity is included on the now updated care plan. Every day whenever the client feels like "getting out of the house" he asks his caregiver for a drive. The client with the caregiver's assistance gets into the caregiver's car and they take a 20-40 minute drive to the local park and back. Another example, a client who had a stroke and requires many visits to the hospital. He requires therapies like physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy throughout the week, but due to his immobility is unable to drive there alone. He also requires mobility assistance as well as other caregiver services like mobility assistance, assistance with recreational activities, incontinence care, meal prep, and light house keeping. Every Monday and Friday this individual requires assistance getting to the local physical therapist to get his therapy on. This person's family is busy with school and work so no one has the time to help. On Mondays and Fridays with the caregiver's assistance the individual gets into the car and is driven to his appointment. Upon arriving at the physical therapist appointment the caregiver assists with mobility; ensuring he arrives on time. The caregiver then waits for the therapist to finish delivering the physical therapy in the waiting area. Sometimes caregivers can help by accompanying the individual to family events like birthdays, weddings, and BBQ's. Other locations a caregiver can accompany individuals in need of assistance are fast food restaurants, stores, family visits, friends house, and of course all doctor appointments. Preparation is key when you are traveling or transporting a client anywhere. This includes water, clothing, incontinence supplies, and emergency contact information. For inclement weather ensure you have the best clothing on so the individual doesn't get too cold or too hot. Transportation services are a part of Champion Care caregiver duties. There is no extra cost to receive transportation service with one of our caregivers, but a mileage reimbursement rate of 70 cents per mile is applied. This is the only amount that is added to your monthly invoice and it is that simple. Many transportation services exist and are great options for transportation to doctor appointments and other travels. Uber and Lyft services are options that do not provide caregiver assistance, only the transportation.
