Caregiver burden has implications in caregivers lifes. Since caregivers can be instrumental to families of many seniors and disabled individuals it is important to know exactly what it is. Caregiver burden has been defined as the feeling of a decrease of quality of life. The consequences of caregiver burden include physical and psychological deterioration.
Physical deterioration and fatigue have been reported as after long term care. (A.A., 2004) Sometimes taking extra hours or covering shifts can be very enticing. Caregivers can work extended hours into overtime at 60 plus hours per week. Many caregivers fail to report their own fatigue and problems.
There have been reports of caregivers experiencing more depression, anger, guilt, and anxiety. Especially during late stages of cancer where caregivers have significantly more anxiety and depression than the general public. Also, they were more susceptible to mental impairments. (J.I, 2011)
These symptoms can indicate caregiver burn-out. This is when a person worked too many hours and forgot to take care of themselves. Self abandonment or a lack of self care can lead to many personal consequences like feeling depressed and being unable to enjoy the activities that you used to enjoy. Champion Care provides respite care and follows up with caregivers on a daily basis to ensure that everyone feels good at work. Daily surveys take place to measure quality levels and this is done through the odoo app. The odoo app is a requirement and is used for attendance logging. This open channel of communication is available for caregivers at all times. We are here to listen to your concerns and want to help improve not only our services but to ensure everyone’s safety.
